Main purchase reason is it fits thru the baggage door on a Cessna 180. I own many high end ice chests mostly yeti this is a better cooler because the latches are flush with the sides they don’t hang up on other gear while packing, it has held ice in the plane for 6 days on extended camp trips. Because it worked so well i also purchased the 74 quart and the 35. I don’t often write review’s but who ever gave these coolers a 1 star no doubt didn’t pre-cool the unit that is a must for long ice retention, if you don’t do that the warm cooler uses up ice to get the walls chilled so i am rebuking that 1 star rating. These units do not have rubber non skid biscuits on the bottom and i like that fact they instead have slick skid rails that allow you to pull the loaded ice chest on a pickup bed surface or aircraft floorboards with carpet. The Yeti’s I own have rubber skids and they pull out if you try and move it loaded on truck bed surface some people prefer this i don’t. Dont be afraid of these coolers they work great hold ice a long time have ski’s built into the bottom, very nice drain plug. and good latches that work well and are mounted below the surface so they don’t hang up and other gear.

This is a great cooler, I didn’t get mine through Amazon I got it from Babbits outfitters while I was in Flagstaff where the company is based. Nothing against Amazon obviously I’m an big fan (and stockholder), it was just a purchase of opportunity. I have an Engle 35 cooler which is another great cooler. I like having coolers I can move around when full, thats why I go with the smaller ones. Both coolers are very solid. they retain ice better than any budget cooler. I have a 5 day igloo which is great, but both the Engel and the Canyon are better. The Engel is officially bear approved, but the Canyon has no edges and a smoother bottom. Decide which you like.

After using for about 6 months I think this is a great cooler. Fits in the trunk of a Toyota Corolla and you can still open enough to get a gallon of milk in. No sharp edges. The latches work great are recessed, and easily operable by kids. Keeps stuff cold for days on end here in the South Carolina heat. The seal on the lid is so good that if you change elevation you have to Crack the drain plug to release the air pressure so the lid will open. Great cooler!
Cold beer for days and days.

We chose the canyon cooler based on price and comparable reviews to other high end coolers. After using it on a month long Baja road trip adventure I can confidently say we made a good choice. We were in and out of the cooler every day and went through about one bag of ice every 5-7 days. Testing shows the Yeti to perform slightly better but it seems negligible considering the price difference. We like the long rope handles for straight arm carrying and straight outside walls for packing around it in the car. Construction is robust and I don’t see why we wouldn’t have this cooler for decades. Time to give away our old igloo cooler.

First the good love the latches easy to open this is the lightest roto molded cooler out there at 11 lbs empty still heavy dont get me wrong. You wont want to carry far also it has the availability to carry a litre of pop standing up ice will last about 2days. i use for a work lunch box so it stays in vehicle 10 hrs a day temp over 100 deg this summer i use 3 ice packs tecni ice on bottom of cooler with 2 cooler shock ice pack 0 rated pre chill before i go to bed with other ice packs that i have. Use good ice packs and you will have good results. i put a jbl charge 3 speaker a yeti rambler coffee mug a plastic sandwich container a gatorade bottle chips snack cakes 3 ice packs a vanquest husky organizer. After all that its 25 pounds .Doesnt have a drain plug but i dont use it for ice. Final thoughts i have coolers from other top brands yeti pelican rtic igloo sportsman i chose this for weight height inside simple square design takes up less space than others and cost less. If you want this for ice retention might want to look at something different. The Canyon met my work day cooler needs fitting all my taller things in there no problems hope this helped
I really like this ice chest

I really like this ice chest. Be aware that this (small) 22 quart cooler does not have the same wall thickness of the bigger Canyon Coolers. This one has wall thickness about 1.5″ thick. So it really doesn’t keep your stuff as cold as one of the bigger coolers. On the other hand, in a smaller cooler like this, you still have some decent internal volume to hold your stuff.
No Drain Plug

We bought this 22qt cooler because it’s not to big to fit in the back of our Jeep, I gave 4 stars because in the photo’s it shows a drain plug, Down the page where the specs are, that describes the drain plug, No where on the Amazon page does it say no drain plug on the 22qt. When it arrived relatively quickly NO drain plug.

Did seven days in the Saint Regis canoe area late August and used ice packs ,frozen whole chickens and everything you can imagine stayed cold unbelievably cold.A lifesaver really. Great product bigger than the yeti you do not have to follow the pack to get a good quality cooler I actually prefer the canyon over my yeti
Great for a Truck Driver

I bought this for my husband, who drives trucks for a living and works some pretty long days. I make and freeze his tea every day and stick the next day’s frozen supply in the ice chest when he gets home each night so that we don’t have to pack it in the morning. I do not have to put an ice pack in if the bottles are already frozen and I don’t put ice because I don’t want it to drip when he takes a bottle out. I send him with about 6 bottles a day, but the ice chest could easily hold more. His drinks are still fairly cold towards the end of the day (about 24 hours after I put them in the ice chest).
