Excellent product for trip to Haiti

I recently took this bottle to Haiti with me. We were staying outdoors for 8 days and I needed something strong to keep the bugs away. I did not get a single mosquito bite while wearing the Deet. I would walk through swarms of flies on the street and not be touched by a single one, which I was pretty happy about since I hate bugs!

Works very well! (compare to Ultrathon)

For a two-week trip around Costa Rica this August, I thoroughly researched the best insect repellents, especially as I am highly allergic to mosquitoes (I get massive welts that itch–and are often hot to the touch–for days). I also worried about the no-seeums and sand flies. We planned to trek through multiple rainforests and spend some time in the hot, humid Caribbean, so I wanted to be well covered! Originally, I thought I needed a 100% DEET product, but after much research, I learned that it was not necessary to have such a high concentration (which could also cause adverse reactions). I decided to go for products in the 30-40% DEET range, and ended up buying three different ones: the Repel Sportsmen MAX pump spray, the Repel wipes, and the Ultrathon cream.

We bought Repel because we were going to Uganda and had no previous experience in Africa. We were told Repel would be a good supplement to the malaria pills and garlic tabs we were taking. All I can say is we came home without any mosquito bites and … no malaria. That’s all that matters. Repel is fairly potent and it is best to spray outside or in a large room. Try not to inhale it.

Love the Spray

I have purchased this in the creme form and have been using it for about a year. I live in Florida where the insects are HUGE… the has worked better than anything else I’m tried. The spray is so easy to use and take to the beach in the evening. This is a GREAT product and really keeps the mosquitoes away!!

Family of 5 went to Africa for 3 weeks. Used on ankles, wrists, and necks in evenings and only went through 1/2 of a bottle. No bites, no malaria, I don’t know what else to say about it. Oh,we did spray around the tent openings and it really stained the fabric and pretty much started eating through it…so don’t do that. Just spray yourself. More importantly, cover up with long sleeves and leggings/socks.

I never actually noticed that deet came in many different potencies. I quit using bug spray for years because it kept burning my skin. This stuff is strong enough to kill everything that comes into contact with it without burning your skin.

Great Stuff – Not oily and better value and convenience than pressurized aerosols

I love this stuff compared to many other brands of Deet-based repellents. This has less of an oily-greasy feel than the others I have tried and works just as well or better. I like that it is NOT a pressurized aerosol so I can open the top and pour out a little into a small bottle to keep in my pocket when I don’t want to carry a big spray bottle. The pump spray works very well and makes just as fine a spray as pressurized aerosols do for me. I have bought three of these bottles now and plan to buy more to replace my last one when it is running out. Note that the price per ounce of actual repellent is much better in this container than in a pressurized aerosol and the flat bottle fits more efficiently in bags and glove compartments than a totally round pressurized aerosol. .

Great but sticky insect repellent

This insect repellent worked very well during a 10-day vacation in Grenada. I was not stung by any mosquitos. I would give it 5 stars for that. What I didn’t like was how sticky the bottle became. The flimsy plastic cap literally got stuck like glue to the sprayer from the nozzle leaking and was hard to remove. Before I realized the issue it even leaked in my purse (although tightly closed!), damaging my rubber iphone case. At least it didn’t stain clothes though. Keep it in a ziploc bag at all times!
