The Stable Table

This shooting table is much more than I expected. It is STABLE and sturdy and provides an outstanding shooting platform. I was expecting something that was much more flimsy and got a rock solid, convenient platform for all types of long range shooting. It can be used bench rest style or for hunging varmints. With an appropriate ground blind, it can even be used for game hunting of all types. I’m impressed. Easy to assemble, easy to use. It is a bit heavy for a long trek, but if the will is there, it can be carried in just about anywhere. If you can’t tell, I’m VERY happy with it. Great value.

I’d been toying with the idea of spending $600 on a DOA Tactical shooting bench, but I wasn’t in a real hurry to spend $600 on a bench. Then again I was also leery of spending a couple hundred dollars on a bench that might not be as stable. Getting a Caldwell Stable Table as a birthday present from my wife resolved that dilemma. As it turns out I’m actually very impressed with it.

Only two things wrong on this otherwise excellent shooting bench. (1) The only way it qualifies as being “Portable” is that there are 2 handholds built into the platform. On the plus side, it does break down very easily into several pieces, this thing is HEAVY! It has to be in order to be a stable platform. (2) It needs “end caps” on the three legs so that they will not become plugged with dirt/grass/mud. Other than these two faults, it’s very well built, rugged and will last a lifetime, and worth the investment.

I have had several other shooting benches prior to buying these benches (I have two of them, one with a wooden top and the other with the plastic top.)and none of them ever preformed as well as these do. The other designs just don’t work in the field. These are priced so the average person can afford one. The only thing better and at three times the price and too heavy is the DOA shooting bench at $600+ dollars. It’s out of the reach of most people and is not portable as are the Caldwell portable shooting benches. I like the wooden topped one for use in the field as I can use a photo clamp to mount a spotting scope directly to the top surface so there is no chance of it getting knocked over, or accidently moved off target. I use the plastic topped one at my indoor range. The three point contact is the only way to go for a shooting bench as it is the most stable platforms available for a bench in the field. It breaks down into two or three pieces rapidly for easy transport. It’s a good investment and there is nothing better out there for the money. I’m very happy with both of mine and won’t need to ever look for another one. The best thing you can do to improve your accuracy.

This table both goes together quickly or rapidly breaks down for easy transport to the field. It is quite stable and adjustable and makes not only a great shooting platform, but a good platform for rifle/pistol cleaning. I typically use it to accurately sight in my various guns. The table is obviously manufactured with the highest standards of quality. It is not as easily moved as I thought it would be. Although there are two carrying cutouts in the top of the table, it is very awkward to carry this table fully assembled. But again, the legs come off easily and quickly as does the seat post for quick disassembly.

I have tried several other tables, and the Stable Table is by far the best for the money. It is heavy, so I keep it in the Caldwell bag in the back of my SUV and take it out piece by piece to avoid carrying the whole thing at once. I can set it up for shooting in well under 5 minutes, and disassemble it even faster four pins and you are done.

I purchased this May 06. However, I have used one prior to purchasing it. This would have gotten a five star rating. Like others, this table needs end caps. OR, they need to offer some sort of feet that can go in the pre-drilled holes. Mind you I haven’t checked their website yet on that. I ended up making wood block ends for it using some pressure treated 2×4. I cut them about 5 inches long and used the pre-drilled holes and ran some stainless bolts through it. I counter sunk the heads and ran them from the bottom up. Works well and prevents the ends from sinking in when it is soft mud or just nasty out. Other than that, this unit works great and holds my fat a$$ with no problem. It is a very stable shooting platform and well worth the value. I haven’t purchased the carry bag yet, too many negative reviews concerning the stowage of the metal legs..

Great table, but the ends of the legs are wide open and can gather dirt & debris every time you set it up. Search Amazon for “1 1/2” SQUARE TUBING END CAP PLUG – QUANTITY OF 8″…Those end caps are cheap and fit perfectly. Problem solved.

I love this table! I initially purchased it for a shooting table on our back porch. After seeing it’s versatility, I moved it to one of our hog blinds. It works perfectly, & keeps me comfortable on those sometimes long waits. The swivel action of the table top & seat make it good for any angle, or position you need to be in. It also is extremely portable, since all the pieces attached with just a clip. Don’t think this table is wobbling because of that though, because it is not! I couldn’t be happier.
