I have NEVER had this kind of food before. I’ve always been curious though. It seems really convenient… especially for camping or for emergency use. This seemed like a great opportunity to try it out. I followed the directions to the letter and didn’t deviate one bit.

Good but not great

I wanted to give this item 5 stars, but really couldn’t. It is very, very convenient to use, which is why I wanted to try it, for camping. It is convenient to bring and to make.

This foil pouch contains 4.73 oz. of hash browns & eggs. There is alot smaller portions of pork sausage, peppers, and onions. The label says this pouch is good for two servings. Each serving has 13 grams of protein,27g of carbs, 22g of fat, 880mg sodium, 295mg of cholesterol. I followed directions and poured 1 1/2 cup of boiling water into the pouch and stired. Let sit 9-10 minutes and ate. I used 8″ flour tortillas and made two generous burretos. I added some pepper and other seasonings as I felt the taste was a bit bland. I was very full after my two tortillas. I put the pouch on a scale and it was 9oz. Which means around 8oz of food ready to eat. Was not bad at all and very filling. Now the pouch does have a manufacturing date on it, but no shelf life or expiration date. This pouch did have an oxygen absorber packet inside ,to enhance the shelf life. My pouch was exactly six years old when I ate it, and I didn’t get sick. I don’t know if the taste was different than a newer pouch. I’m thinking you could open the pouch and split it up into three equal zip lock bags. Add each pouch to 1/2 cup boiling water, presto, you have a filling snack or breakfast. . I felt half a pouch was a bit too filling, and I am 6’6″ tall. I hope this is helpfull.

Yummy!!!

Great breakfast. Package is good for several servings. I break it down into 1 cup serving sizes and put it into ziploc baggies. Then I heat up my water and just add the mix to my cook pot. Saves space and you don’t end up making more than you can eat. Seriously, this package is a huge portion.

Fan since I was a kid

Mountain House reminds me of backpacking with my dad when I was 10 through high school (I’m 28 now). So, when I convinced my girlfriend to come backpacking with me, I told her freeze-dried food was part of the experience and picked up a variety of these. While there are a few brands to choose from, Mountain House has always been the standard for me because:

Took it to the Grand Canyon for 4 day backpacking. Right before i left i opened it and put in separate zip lock bags. THis way I could leave the can behind.

This was my first time trying these meals. This past weekend I took these with me on a 4-day trip. They have plenty of calories and protein, which I needed for our 7 mile trek.

350 calories per serving with 13g of protein. This for breakfast plus 2 Millennium Bars per day equals 1150 calories. If you consume that combo you’ll have 90% of your daily protein, 98% of your fat, 80% of your carbs, and 80% of your sugar for the day, not to mention the vitamins in the Millennium bars. Each breakfast skillet can has 10 servings. The bars come as a 24 pk. So for one person you can have at least 10 – 12 days supply of food at the ready when purchased together. The can is much larger than I thought a 1.5 lb can of food would be. It was very tasty although the eggs stayed a little too wet for my taste. I suggest adding less water to begin and check to see if you want to put the full 1 cup in at the end. Other than that it is a great deal and I will be buying many many more for the future. Breakfast Skillet has a lot of good flavor. It’s way better than the plain eggs and bacon in a can. This has pork sausage, hashbrowns, red and green peppers, onions, and eggs in it.

Not bad..

Actually tastes good for an MRE… Mountain House has the best tasting MREs – by far.. I keep this & 1 other #10 can on hand to have a breakfast meal w/ my Just In Case Buckets. I plan on turning them over right around 2020, and every 10 yrs after. Amazon has some of the best prices anywhere for Mountain House foods.
