I purchased a pair of the heavy-duty StabilIcers to take with me to Stockholm, Sweden, for the winter. I’m overweight, and have a knee problem that limits my stability quite severely on ice and slick surfaces. I have, in the past, used stretched-rubber oversoles with carbide tipped spikes (available for ~150 SKr in most Stockholm shoe shops). These have worked poorly; tough to get on and off while standing (basically, you really need to take off your shoes!), and tended to slip out of position on shoes.

These are the answer! My husband and I have sworn by Yaktrax for several winters, but this year we’ve had a lot of black ice, which is like walking on a ceramic tile floor, and the Yaktrax were worthless in such conditions. Stabilicers cut right into the ice, no slipping at all! I notice that our local mail deliverer wears them. If you live in Wisconsin, you learn what works to walk around without sliding, or else!

I walk 2-3 miles cross country everyday including winter without a hint of slipping on snow or ice. I have mine fastened on Micky Mouse boots and don’t take them off to keep the hassle down. The straps hold them on without loosening at all. They are perfect for me.

A friend and I bought these last winter after failing to negotiate a steep road covered in glare ice. After donning the StabilIcers, it was like walking on dry pavement. That’s not an exaggeration. Highly Recommended and made here in Maine!

I bought these to help negotiate icy winter trails in local natural areas. They worked very well. In addition, I also use them for stream beds, which get quite slippery in summer due to algal growth. In both cases, I’m carrying photography equipment that just will not tolerate either a dunk or a drop. These strap on, not held on by strecthy rubber.

Have used the YakTrax brand stretch on steel coils over bungees type for years (both pro and economy ones) and got tired of them wearing out. I would easily go through two pairs of YakTrax a year and they still slip on ice and even dry pavement. I have also tried the rubber straps with studs and did not like that type either. Saw my mailman wearing something that looked like these and was pleasantly surprised to find out they are exactly what the US mailmen and women use.
