The Coleman Sundome 4, 9'x7', dome tent is part of the classic Sundome series of tents from Coleman. The Sundome 4 sleeps 4 happy campers and includes a large door for easy entry/exit with a hooded fly to provide ventilation even in rain. A large rear hooded window also provides airflow for cross ventilation. Mesh vents on the roof provide additional ventilation and the rugged 1000D polyethylene floor is a bathtub style (wraps up the sides) for extreme weather protection and has welded seams, even in the corners, to guard against a leaky floor. The coated polyester fabrics on the fly and walls are rugged and durable. Like all Coleman Sundome tents it is easy to set up or take down and features an Electrical Access Port, a ground vent and an interior mesh storage pocket.

I purchased this tent for a camping trip in Lake George NY. I’ve never been camping since the boy scout days. Opened up the package when I got there and setup was simple, it took about ten minutes. Tent is really well made for the price, everything went together well. The ventilation is great with the upper walls screened. Even with the rain cover on you still get great ventilation through large screened openings on the front and back walls of tent. Without the rain guard installed, the upper walls of this tent are screened so you can see the sky and stars.

This Coleman 4 person tent kept us warm and dry on our camping trip this Memorial Day weekend. This was my very first time setting up a tent and camping out with 2 kids and 2 dogs in tow, and it took me just 15 minutes to set up the tent.
I LOVE THIS TENT!

I am very pleased with my purchase – I do a lot of car camping with a friend of mine and we use this with 2 people and have PLENTY of room in the tent for all of our stuff and a good couple feet between sleeping bags as well. It’s easy to put up and take down with 2 people. I like the waterproof floor that goes up the sides a few inches to keep the water out – we went camping over labor day weekend and it poured rain but we stayed dry in the tent! This is a great buy!

I bought this for our annual June cub scout camp out in the park (i.e. not exactly extreme camping). The tent was easy for my 8 year old son and I to set up together and very roomy for the two of us (I can see how it could easily fit 4 if needed, though it was a nice size for 2 with plenty of room for stuff). It rained most of the night with thunder and lightning, but we made it through completely dry. The rain cover worked great and still provided plenty of ventilation. There are not a lot of rope tie-downs for kids (and adults) to trip over which was nice (just 2 for the rain cover and none for the actual tent) and it was still entirely stable through our stormy night. This tent was reasonably priced and worked well for our purposes. I bought this rather than last year’s model just because it was a few dollars less but my impressions of this tent seem in line with the very positive reviews for last year’s model.

Don’t ask me why, but we went camping and canoeing during Hurricane Irene in the Shenandoah River for the entire weekend. This tent was easy to set up (in the dark) and was sufficient in keeping the bugs out. Saturday night, there was heavy rain and winds 45-60ish mph; pretty scary when you add some thunder and sounds of falling branches. This tent was secure and kept my wife and I dry when our friends tents sprung leaks and suffered wet sleepingbag-itis. I think fitting 4 people in the tent is a bit too cozy and it serves 2 the best if you like some room for your guns and stuff. I recommend also the mallet and metal dowels with broom/dustpan that amazon offers in the buy together option. I think those heavy duty dowels and my heavy duty self helped my tent stay secured. bottom line: a tent well worth pitchin’
Assembled in the living room and checked for quality

So, call it unbridled enthusiasm but I assembled this in the living room mere minutes after the UPS truck delivered it. We are leaving for a trip at the end of the moth and I wanted to see how easy the tent assembled. I am completely impressed. Even though I know Coleman is known for their products, this was very simple to put together. After you unpack everything, you basically assemble two support poles, insert them into the sleeves, lift the middle and secure the ends. That’s it! Total assembly time in the living room was 10 minutes and that included figuring out the rain shield. The designs have changed since I last bought a tent. The floor of the tent has a raised border on it that runs the perimeter and lift the first seam about 4 inches off the ground. I am still going to seal all the seams but this looks pretty water tight to me. The open areas for ventilation are nice and big and the mesh is very fine so mosquitoes and winged bugs should not be able to get in. The interior pockets are generous and the center ring for securing a lamp feels really sturdy. I am not sure this would be comfortable for 4 adults but the two of us should have plenty of room with a queen size inflatable mattress and our other gear.

I committed the cardinal sin of putting the tent up for the first time at the campground instead of a practice run at home before the camping trip. I had intended to seal the tent seams before the first trip because of some reviewers had problems with leaks. I had almost 24 hours of rain without any leaks. I did use a tarp as a footprint, it worked well. Moderate winds, no problems there. I do not know how you could put 4 people in this tent. I tend to over pack, but left most of my stuff in the truck. I was comfortable with just me and one very large 93lb dog in this tent. I do not like to be crowded, would not have enjoyed another person in the tent. It was cold, 47 degrees during the day. No condensation in the tent. I hope it will have enough ventilation for hot weather.

So far I had only one camping trip with this tent but I love it! I didn’t get a chance to check how rainproof this tent is, but I’m not worried a lot about it because I’m a good weather camper and if there is a high chance of rain on forecast I wouldn’t go. Otherwise, this tent exceeded all expectations, especially because I bought it during price drop for $49.99, it worths much more. It is spacious, I bought 4-person tent for me and my wife and we easily fit there queen size inflatable mattress and had more than enough room for our clothes and bags (see photo). Set up is easy, one person can do it. Most important: ventilation! In my last tent I hated to wake up soon after sunrise all sweating and feeling like in sauna. This tent has so much ventilation that if you open everything up you really feel almost like sleeping under the sky. However, you can close vents enough to trap some warm air inside. I wouldn’t recommend this tent for the cold weather camping because you still can’t close vents enough to prevent decent airflow through the tent, it is obviously great summertime tent, lots of fresh air. Feels sturdy, easy to set up and pack, beautiful design, lots of room, side pockets inside. Comes with the doormat for taking off dirty shoes! Certainly not for backpacking, too large and heavy for that.
