I bought this for working bees, not for mosquito protection. After having used it for a few weeks, these are my observations.

You’re not going to be winning any beauty contests in this thing, but it does the job. I’m 5’7″ and 140 and got the medium. It fits loosely, but I think that’s good – you can cinch in the waist and sleeves as much as necessary to eliminate any gaps. I haven’t had any problems with insects biting through the mesh – when I’m wearing it I don’t get bitten. I love that the neck unzips for a quick drink without having to take the whole thing off!

I first got this jacket working hurricane response in southern MS. They had these biting gnats that would just lap up DEET and laugh at you. Physical barrier was the only option. This jacket was a life saver and continues to make activities like fishing enjoyabout. The roomy hood fits over brimmed fishing hats and hard hats.

I purchase 2 of these after the other brand I bought developed holes throughout and allowed the small critters to get in. Since we live in northern Maine, we needed something that worked well against black flies, deer flies, no-see-ums and mosquitoes (as long as you wear a long-sleve shirt if you don’t move around much) Mosquitoes tend to bite through the mesh if your skin is next to it. I solved that problem by spraying the bug jacket before I put it on. Really like the idea of the pull cords on the waist and sleeves too. Adjusting them to accommodate gloves really helps. Overall, I highly recommend this product if you live where ‘blood sucking’ critters are a problem. Made well also.

I work out in the wilderness where the mosquito`s are as large as birds. This has been a life saver. very roomy, and not one bite yet!

I have the Coghlan’s Bug jacket and the pants. Because of our extremely wet summer here in the midwest, I couldn’t harvest anything from my garden without these lightweight, comfortable bug barriers. Even on ultra-humid, 90 degree plus days, the jacket and pants can be worn without making one excessively hot. I highly recommend them to anyone bothered by mosquitoes or biting flies.

Good quality fabric for what is intended to be used. Customers might want to be careful when wearing this item for it can tear easily if not careful or get stuck somewhere. Great head and face hoodie protector attached to the jacket. No extra head mess needed if you purchase the jacket since it comes included and attached to jacket.

It’s nice to have something on that keeps the bugs off but lets the air through. They will still bite through if it’s right against your skin (ie. shoulders) but it fits loose and works well. All sizes fit big, so if you are unsure of the size, go with the smaller one.

We used these bug jackets during a 4-day camping trip in New Hampshire during black fly season. It stopped every blood sucking insect around – including those tiny black flies. The jackets were surprisingly cool to wear, even under moderate activity. The craftsmanship is excellent but the design is really what stands out. There’s a double zipper at mouth level allowing you to eat and drink while still maintaining most of your bug protection. The bottom and each sleeve are equipped with sturdy drawstrings so it’s easy to adjust to your body. Wearing the Bug Jacket with a brimmed hat (I used a baseball cap and my wife used a full brimmed hat) makes the hood work even better as it keeps the mesh out of contact with your skin. The jacket is cut with room to spare. I take a size large and could easily fit another coat underneath it if I needed to.
