Coleman 8-Person Instant Tent (14’x10′)

We got this tent this spring to replace an OLD Coleman external frame tent that used to leak on us like a seive, even when all we had was a heavy dew. Anyway, this tent has performed like a champ for the camping we did this summer.

We bought this tent in July in anticipation of our first camping trip in 5 years. To say my spouse is a reluctant camper is an understatement, so I did whatever I could think of (short of renting a furnished cottage) to make our week on the coast of Maine comfortable. I had been reading the comments about this tent for about a year before we decided for sure that we’d be camping this summer. Wish I’d gone for it in early summer, when Coleman was running a $20 rebate program! Oh, well.

UPDATE: We’ve now camped with this tent for 3 seasons and have experience with weather resistance. It rained the entire week, with some serious downpours, this last camping trip in August. Ours was the ONLY tent that didn’t flood out. We kept the doors & windows zipped up and had no water leakage at any of the floor, window/door, or side seams. We had a tarp over the tent & camping area so can’t attest to the resistance of the ceiling but have no doubts it would perform as well as the rest of the tent. Another commenter gave some information regarding vents in the ceiling that we didn’t know about & will definitely check out next summer so that eliminates my ventilation con. And now that we have some experience setting up & taking down the tent it is MUCH closer to a minute than our previous 15!! So the only con that remains is the lack of ties or toggles to help keep the windows rolled up neatly when they are zipped open. Minor annoyance!

This is a great tent! Do yourself a favor and instead of taking it out of the box and trying to beat the 1 minute time for assembly, read the directions and familerize yourself with the proper way to put it up and take it down. After 1 or 2 times you will be setting up in about a minute.

This is the 1st time I have ever left a review regarding a purchase on Amazon. This tent deserves lots of attention! I love the space this tent provides. I don’t have any interest in having any more than our queensize airmattress in there. I like the fact that I had a table to hold our fan, clock, and toilettries along with a stand-alone clothes hanger so I could unpack my suitcase with lots of room to spare. My husband and I are both 50 and no longer want to crawl in and out of a tent. Plus, I just zip up the windows and change my clothes standing up as opposed to trying to do it in a sitting position. Setting it up and taking it down was amazingly easy and not too bad getting it back in the bag. You just have to get all the air out. Just make sure you have some of the windows unzipped so the air can release to roll up better. Would I recommend this tent? ABSOLUTELY! I think Amazon had this tent at my door within 3 days of ordering with free shipping. Thanks Amazon…

I am shopping for this tent now, since a friend of ours had a 6 person on our last camping expedition… and we were impressed. This is just a quick note, based on some of the separate reviews about flimsy fabric and comments such as “won’t be tricked by doesn’t need a separate rain fly” I noticed those were the specs on ones sold through places like Walmart for only one seventy. I almost fell for it, thinking what a GREAT deal, compared to two twenty here. Check the specs! The walmart version has fabric that is only 75D, while this one is 150D, just for starters. It is too bad we can’t tell from all these reviews which tent is actually owned, since they are called by the same name and many people might not know. I was impressed with the quality of my friends, and will update in Oct. after we have bought this one from Amazon and taken it out for a week. FYI Coleman.com lists Amazon as the only place to buy it’s high quality version at this time.
