i like them..i use this pair to work, every them day i’m on top of roof all over L>A>, san bernardino county, orange county & riverside county; you won’t believe how light these are men , i used to wear my red wings boots all day long but i got tire ’cause they are a little heavy , and i love the rust colour , attratcs a lot of attention …
Excellent: as expect from Merrell.

These Merrell Capra Mid’s are excellent and what i expect from Merrell. The orange color makes it easy to find my shoes in the bunch. As others have said lacing to the top hook can create too much friction near your ankle during normal walking: leave it for when you really need the support. Waterproofing is good: got caught in a downpour on the Kalapana lava field walk and the only thing dry afterward were my feet. Crossing a stream is another story though. A word of general advice: wear thick socks, measure your feet while wearing said socks, then buy your hiking shoes according to that size w/ socks.
Found my boot

I am still using the Rufuge Core mid waterproof boot but since they have not been made in years I was forced to find another, I used the Moab for several years along with the aging Refuge cores and the Moabs are nice and I can walk miles in them but they are just a little to wide whereas the Cores are perfect width. I tried the All Out Blaze and it is much to wide, no way to make them work. Tried on several Keen shoes to find a good fit but wasn’t sold on any one model. Got a pair of these Capra mid waterproof and WaaaLaaa found the perfect fit, right out of the box they are cumfy and have good support I haven’t had a chance to hike in them yet but I have high hopes and am vary confident these will work for me. So glad I was able to find a nice narrow Merrell. The sole is kind of flat and the tread is not so aggressive as most Merrell hikers so time will tell. They use a different system for the upper, instead of a soft thick cushion upper ankle area they have a much thinner neopream material, it’s pretty comfortable so far just wearing for everyday use so I don’t think this will be a problem.
a very nice pair of boots

Over all these are a very nice pair of boots. My only complaint is I wear and ordered a 10.5 and they are a little tight. I should have gotten an 11 for wearing with thicker socks or two pairs of socks. I wore them for a couple of weeks on an African safari so far, so not a lot of wear yet. The shoe laces are thin, flat and short and therefore difficult to tie.
Very nice piece of kit
A very nice day hike boot that has exceeded my expectations. Comfortable right out of the box with decent ankle support without binding and a neoprene type achilles backing that doesn’t irritate when trekking downhill. Quality materials and workmanship is readily seen in this boot which also looks good in my opinion. These are advertised as waterproof and my only experience with that were a day of off and on showers and a trek through wet grass and my feet came out dry. Not sure about wading through a shallow stream, but I wouldn’t do that with any boot I had on. As far as sizing is concerned I believe they fit as expected and are very normal, I wear a 11 1/2 normal width and did not find this boot to be narrow. I would suggest you purchase your normal size, but I went up a half size to accommodate wool hiking socks that I would be using and it fits spot on. If these were to be my normal day to day boots with normal cotton type socks I would recommend purchasing your normal size..
Great fit, check the grommets
I love Merrell boots, had one pair I abused everyday for three years and they finally gave up. I used to only where red wings to work but the heavy weight can wear on you. these fit great and are comfortable for all day. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is one of the top grommets popped out and i had to pop it back in and hammer it with a set. I read in a review that this has happened to others. For me it was any easy fix but I shouldn’t have had to. sounds like they need to set there press harder.
They remained very comfortable the entire time
For the couple of times I’ve worn them, it was several hours each. There was no break-in period. They remained very comfortable the entire time. Now that the cooler/rainy fall is here, I will be wearing them much more. I don’t expect to have any issues with these as I have no issues with any of the (many) Merrell’s I own.
