For our elk hunting trip in 2011, we purchased this same Zodi unit. Not only did we have to recylce the water thru the system to get it hot enough, the unit would not refire if still warm. I returned the unit at the conclusion of the hunt totally disappointed. I spent the summer looking for another camp shower, only to come to the conclusion that the Zodi was the smartest way to go; however we did modify it. We added a bypass valve just above the shower head. Now we do not have to move anything, nor do we have to shut the unit down while we lather up. It cost us $14.00 to add a metal bypass valve and all fittings and hoses. I can now divert the heated water back to the bucket if it needs more warmth or while I lather up. Our camp took three hot showers every night and over the week averaged 2-1/2 gallons total each night. One bottle of propane lasted five days or 15 showers.

I started looking for a hot shower set up after our last camping trip of the season last year. After doing a bunch of research, this seemed like the most compact unit that heated water and from reading other people’s reviews, I was aware that the pump was a joke and lacked the ability to handle the rigors of camping without failing to pump or just falling apart. I was also not thrilled with the idea of depending on a pile of D batteries. I was also aware that this unit does not have an auto on off feature. Even with it’s short comings, it’s compact and is a better option then other tankless water heaters on the market.

Nothng better than a hot shower!

This Zodi Hot Tap travel shower is a great way to make nice hot showers out in the wilderness. The water can also be used for cleaning dishes. I went with the single burner as the weather here rarely gets cold enough to use the double burner model. If you expect the input water to be chilly get the double burner model. On cool mornings here I simply recycle the water letting the hot water warm the cold input water until there is a batch ready to go. The electric pump should not be shut off while the burner is running so you simply recycle the water back into the source tub while you lather up. If you like to dry camp out of the back of your SUV or truck this is a really nice comfort. It would also make a nice emergency shower for places that might lose city water.

I’m quite happy with my Zodi camp shower. As a previous poster mentioned it’s best to use the recirculation method to get the water warm, but even without doing so you definitely get warm water and a surprisingly good flow of water, especially if you are using new alkaline batteries. I tested mine last night outside, temperature low 50s, using about 3 gallons in a large bucket, recirculating for a couple of minutes prior to showering. That proved to be a generous supply of water (and indeed over-kill) and the run-time was well over 5 minutes, plenty of time to get soaped up and feel the warm water. I could have used a lot less water and still got the job done. This shower is a superb investment for those who like to camp. Your overall morale and feeling of refreshment after showering will make you glad you brought this thing along, no doubt about it. I can’t wait to use it up in the Sierra this Spring and Summer. You can get the water exceedingly hot if you use the recirculating method with a smaller volume of water. I’m going to get a large water cooler for this unit. The business-end of the unit is a series of 10 copper coils in the propane burner box; that alone provides excellent heat transfer. No need for an auxiliary lighter. The piezoelectric starter is push-button sure-start.

This thing is actually pretty cool. You will not get the same pressure as your home shower but it would be foolish to expect it. The pressure that you do get is more than enough to shower with. I found that the 4 gallon container that it comes with is not large enough for me (I am a large man who is overly hygienic)but this was fixed quite simply by purchasing a 10 gallon (40 quart) cooler to use as a tank. The one I purchased allowed the unit and case to rest in perfectly. The only negative thing I have to say about this is that the hoses are too short but that’s a pretty minor point. I would not pay the $150 Amazon price though. For those of you who are Costco members, you can purchase this on their website (just search for Zodi) for $100. All and all this is a great little shower.

I’m giving Zodi 10 stars, its just Amazon has only got 5. I talked with Zodi after purchasing this item. I was concerned that the tubing was not long enough. I also wanted to connect this to a 12 volt battery as opposed to 4 batteries. Zodi provided me with the info I needed to connect this to a 12 volt battery and mailed me additional piping at a low cost. I received the items the next day, after explaining that we had a trip coming up next week. Zodi’s customer service quality is second to none and that has made all the difference. P.S. I tried the shower after purchasing the 12 volt battery connection pump. Flow is fast and heats up well. May need to recirculate, but you cant pick up a connector at Home Depot to regulate flow. This item can heat water very quickly.

Blissful hot showers on a camping trip can be yours! We bought this for our week long trip to the mountains with eight people and it worked great. Everyone took a relaxing shower every day and we only used one bottle of fuel. The system was easy to set up and use. We made two adjustments that helped: we brought along a big rubber tub to hold plenty of water, and we allowed the shower to run hot water back into the tub for 5 minutes each day to get the water warmer. Using very cold mountain water resulted in a lukewarm shower, but running it a bit first made for a nice warm one.

We love this unit, the best way to use it is to heat your water in a 5 gallon bucket by re circulating directly into the bucket or any container. then shut off heating unit then turn on the pump this way you do not need to worry about burning up the unit. And the temp is perfect. We would def buy this again:) Judy
